Studio Workflow (VSWF) transforms how organizations approach application development and process automation. Using a drag-and-drop interface, users can build widgets that turn even the most complex business processes into a set of simple, guided, end-user interactions. Extend your GIS applications using a configuration framework instead of custom development.
There are two types of Studio Workflows; Client-side Workflows and Server-side Workflows. Client workflows run in a client application (the host application). Most workflows are client workflows. Server workflows run on the Studio Workflow server. They are used to perform server-side operations, like querying databases.

-
About Activities (5-minute read)
- Activities are the building blocks of a workflow. Each activity represents a unit of work.
-
Forms (15-minute read)
- Forms allow end users to enter information for the workflow to operate on. For example, a workflow that locates an address for the user could include a form where the user enters the address.
-
Expressions (10-minute read)
- Expressions define how to get or calculate input values at runtime—often by using outputs from previous activities—and tools like auto-complete help you build them easily.

- Tutorial: Get Started (15-minute read)
- This tutorial walks you through creating a simple workflow in VertiGIS Studio by adding a Display Form activity with a text message, running it in the test sandbox to see the result, and then saving it so it can be reused.
-
Tutorial: Create Workflows (15-minute read)
- This tutorial outlines how workflows can be either client-side (run in apps) or server-side (run on a server), how to create them using templates or menus, and the basic steps to build a workflow (add, connect, configure activities, then save), along with how to manage environments and settings like host applications or workflow type.

Hosting Workflows on different Platforms
- You can host a particular client workflow in more than one application. To do this, you must configure each host application separately. For example, you could configure two different VertiGIS Studio Web apps to host a particular workflow. (5-minute read)

Workflow Samples (15-minute review/reference)
- VSWF Workflows Sample Site is a legacy VertiGIS Studio Workflow demo for Geocortex Viewer HTML5. The downloadable sample showcases workflow concepts, forms, GIS, editing, reporting, web, JSON, and advanced activities. It is provided as-is, no longer updated, and some referenced web maps may not function.

How to configure the Get Layer activity’s inputs (10-minute read)
- Guide for configuring the Get Layer activity across VertiGIS Studio Web/Mobile, HTML5, Experience Builder, and Web AppBuilder. Explains correct Layer ID and Sublayer ID usage for feature layers, map services, and group layers, plus common causes of failures.
-
Query a layer and display results using viewer commands
- Shows how to query a layer in VertiGIS Studio Workflow and display results in VertiGIS Studio Web using commands like results.display and results.display-details. Query results must be converted to VertiGIS Features with results.from-graphics before display.
