Introduction
When you launch a secured VertiGIS Studio Web application, you will see at least one login prompt. This article explains why that happens and what you can do to reduce some of the prompts that may appear. Because secured apps protect your data and access, some sign-in prompts are expected. However, there are ways to reduce repeated clicks and make future sign-ins faster, depending on how your organization has configured access.
Why sign-in prompts appear
A secured VertiGIS Studio Web application requires authentication before it can open. Sign-in prompts appear when the app needs to confirm your identity, when your session has expired, or when your browser does not have a saved login session to reuse. In some cases, your identity provider may also ask you to verify your account again for security reasons.
This behavior is normal for protected applications. It helps keep your account and your organization’s data secure.
Initial Authorization Prompt
As VertiGIS Studio Web initializes, it attempts to load the app configuration from a Portal (either ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise). If the app configuration cannot be loaded, you will see a prompt to sign in:
This prompt appears when the Esri ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript encounters a resource that requires a user identity. When you click OK, a login prompt will open in a new tab or popup window.
Login Prompt
In the resulting popup, you will be able to enter credentials to sign in to the Portal. If you're already signed in, then you may approve the login.
Options to Reduce the Prompts
Initial Authorization Prompt
Upgrade to Studio Web 5.45 or later. With the 5.45 release, the sign-in prompt will only be shown once the user has interacted with the app. A secured app config will trigger a redirect to the sign-in and the user will not be prompted.
For other situations the user will receive a prompt in order to ensure the user has initiated the login action, and to ensure any existing app state (work) is retained. The prompt will also appear if Web is embedded in a frame.
Login Prompt
You will need to enter credentials once. However, you have some options to keep your login:
- Checking the "Keep me signed in" option in the login form will persist your login.
- Adding the App that we use for authorization to the setting Organization -> Security -> Apps -> Approved Apps will suppress the approval dialog launched by Web.
See the ArcGIS help topic Manage Apps in the App Launcher for more information.
