Labels are useful in allowing users to distinguish between features that have been selected on the map. However, in some cases, they may clutter the map or cause confusion (i.e. if the label is set to an ID number that the user is unfamiliar with.) In these situations, you may wish to either change the labels or prevent them from appearing altogether.
Changing the labels
Please note this will also change the pop-up title in the Results List, Result Details, and Result Summary.
- Open your webmap in Map Viewer.
- Click the Layers icon in the left toolbar.
- Select the layer whose labels you would like to modify.
- In the right toolbar, click the Pop-ups icon.
- Change the Title. You can add text, replacement tokens, or a combination of both.
- Save the web map.
Removing the labels
Labels are set to use the title that is configured in the layer's pop-up settings in Map Viewer, but will default to the feature's Object ID if no title is available. Therefore, simply removing the title will not remove the labels. There are a couple workarounds to this.
Method 1: Set the Label Text Symbol transparency
It is important to note that this will apply to all layers.
- Open your app in VertiGIS Studio Web Designer.
- Select the Services tab in the right panel.
- Click on Highlighting.
- Expand Highlight Label Text Symbol (2D only) and/or Focus Label Text Symbol (2D only), depending on your preference for label display.
- Click on the swatch under Color.
- Set A to 0.
- Repeat steps 5-6 for Halo Color.
- Save your app.
Method 2: Replace the pop-up title with white space
It is important to note that this will also remove the title from the Results List, Result Details, and Result Summary.
- Open your webmap in Map Viewer.
- Click the Layers icon in the left toolbar.
- Select the layer whose labels you would like to modify.
- In the right toolbar, click the Pop-ups icon.
- In the Title box, clear any existing content and add a space.
- Save the web map.
