How to Generate a Print with the Legend on a Separate Page Using the VertiGIS Studio Printing Engine and VertiGIS Studio Printing Designer

To generate a multi-page print using the VertiGIS Studio Printing Engine, it is necessary to create a layout package, which is a collection of print layouts that get grouped together in one bundle. 

Prior to Printing 5.29 this was only possible using VertiGIS Studio Desktop for ArcGIS Pro, but in version 5.29 and later this is supported directly in VertiGIS Studio Printing Designer.  Here are the steps in Printing Designer to create a layout package that has separate pages for the map and legend:

1. Launch Printing Designer and sign in
2. Create a default-type layout that has a map but no legend.  For example:
   1. Click File > New

   2. Select 8.5 x 11 Landscape and click Create

      

   3. Select the 3 elements that are used to display the legend, then press the delete key on your keyboard to remove them

      

   4. Optional: Rearrange the rest of the layout as you see fit
   5. Save the layout
3. Create a legend-type layout. For example:
   1. Click File > New

   2. From the Page Type dropdown, select "Legend"

      

   3. Select 8.5 x 11 Legend Landscape, and click Create
   4. Optional: Adjust or remove the logo image
   5. Click File > Save As

   6. Change the Page Type to Legend first, then save the legend

      

4. Create a Layout Package that incorporates both the default-type and legend-type layouts:
   1. Click File > New

   2. Select the "Blank Layout Package" from the top of the panel

      

   3. Enter a name for your layout package

   4. Under the heading "Default", click the words "No Layout"

      

   5. Select your layout that has no legend, then click the Select button
   6. Under the heading "Legend", click the words "No Layout"

   7. Select your legend layout, then click the Select button

      

   8. Click the Create button

5. Add the layout package to your app.  For VertiGIS Studio Web, the steps are:
   1. Open the app in VertiGIS Studio Web Designer
   2. From the Components panel, select the app's Printing component

   3. Under the "ArcGIS Pro Layout Packages" heading (not the "ArcGIS Pro Layouts" heading), click the "Add ArcGIS Pro Layout Packages" button

      

   4. Select your new layout package and click the "Select" button to add it to the app
