ArcGIS Pro-based printing layouts are stored in .pagx files.
The internally used data format is called the Cartographic Information Model (CIM).
With the release of ArcGIS Pro 3.x and the associated ArcGIS Enterprise 11.x Products ESRI introduced an updated data model: CIM version 3.
VertiGIS Studio Printing Engine is available in two variants to support both CIM2 and CIM3 versions.
See VertiGIS Studio Printing - Downloads.
- Printing layouts created using ArcGIS Pro 2.x have the format CIM2.
- Printing layouts created using ArcGIS Pro 3.x have the format CIM3.
- CIM2 layouts are forwards compatible and can be loaded and processed by the VertiGIS Studio Printing Engine CIM3. The layout is converted on-the-fly to the CIM3 format during task execution without altering the stored CIM2 layout.
- Printing layouts based on CIM3 cannot be loaded in ArcGIS Pro 2.x and associated ArcGIS Enterprise 10.x products.

The appropriate VertiGIS Studio Printing Engine installer depends on the ArcGIS Enterprise version present in the deployment environment:
-
VertiGIS-Studio-Printing-Engine-CIM2-x.y.z.msi
Recommended for environments running ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1 or 10.9.1.
Note: This variant is intended for VertiGIS legacy products (e.g., WebOffice).
-
VertiGIS-Studio-Printing-Engine-CIM3-x.y.z.msi
Required for environments running ArcGIS Enterprise 11.0 or later.
Note: This variant is used with modern VertiGIS Studio products (e.g., VertiGIS Studio Printing Designer, VertiGIS Studio Web).
For more details see:
What is the suggested environment to use for installations given the post installer's Esri Python library requirements?
