Search New Extent limit to current extent
I recently learned that the Search New Extent component, while it does change the priority of search results, doesn't really match what I think user expectations are. Seeing the phrase “Search This Area”, I would expect when I click on that it would ONLY search for results in that area. Turns out that's not the case and it instead just reprioritizes the regular search to use the new extent but will still return results outside the new map extent.
Google Maps uses the exact same “Search this area” phrase, except it actually only returns results for that area. This would be highly preferable, more consistent with commercial map behavior, and much more useful for the Search New Extent tool as a separate component from regular Search.
I've removed Search New Extent from my app to avoid user confusion, but if the functionality changed to fit what I think are more standard map behaviors I would definitely add it back.

Hello John,
The functionality you proposed is already envisioned and documented in User Story 244057: Allow spatial filtering to limit the results to the current map extent.
Please note that the “geometry” parameter already exists for the Search API operation /api/searchresults, but it is currently not being utilized.
We continuously evaluate our development priorities, and while this feature is not planned at the moment, we appreciate your input and will take it into consideration for future updates.
