Highlight and focus: configure transparency, fill and border separately
CompletedRELEASED: Web 5.32 - control over fill transparency … more may come in the future.
This is a much needed feature. I am testing my first Web viewer and a repeated comment is that the default fill obscures the aerial photos in particular. I would like to be able to control the highlight and focus settings with separate controls for border, fill and transparency, just like GVH. These two threads have similar requests:
Please consider this improvement!

This is desperately needed! The opacity is too high to see aerial imagery details, especially in prints. We need the option to make it more transparent.

I think this should also apply to Services>Draw. I have a button to add a feature to the drawing layer and it is too opaque by default.

+1 to separate the border and fill from me!
Matthew Wartman , you can set transparency in designer in Services>Draw and Services>Highlighting, this will apply to both the border and the fill. There's an alpha slider right beneath the hue slider, though on the version I'm looking at right now (5.28.1) alphas of 0 behave oddly (but 1 behaves as expected).

in 5.29, only the border is affected… :{

Don't know what I was looking at before, but it only affects the border for me too. Either this was affected by an underlying ArcGIS update we made last week or, more likely, I was taking crazy pills. Could've sworn that it was working as I described last week but maybe I just wasn't being careful enough. Regardless, I would prefer to be able to set the two transparencies separately.

I'm rolling out my Essentials replacement VSWeb app, and this is literally the first thing I get asked about by new people…"How do I remove the color over the aerial so I can see it?"
and all I can sheepishly tell my users is “I have no control over that, you need to de-select it. I'm sorry…”
I'm no master programmer, but is seems as though there just needs to be something added to this properties definition like ‘focusFill’ and 'highlightFill?

Please, Cam Barnard ?

Just amplifying this again - it's the #1 comment/complaint from users! I watched the August Road Ahead and was disappointed not to see this on the agenda. Cam Barnard PLEASE make this improvement a priority!

This is also the #1 complaint from my users - they can't see the details on an aerial imagery basemap when a feature is selected. This is fundamentally important for web GIS and disappointed it's still not available after several years' of the VSW product release.
I would guess that this would be low hanging fruit to implement, hopefully Cam Barnard can make it a priority.

Hi everyone - I'm listening. I've pulled the story I filed for this enhancement onto our board to see if we can find a sooner-rather-than-later solution.
If I could get you something quickly that ‘disabled fill’ for highlight or focus (i.e. remove the fill, leave the border) does that solve the majority of the issue?

YES!!!
thank you!
would still want to be able to fill, I think….just able to control opacity.
but if that's the heavy lift, the on/off is 100% ok for now.0 -
Yes, that would get us 99% there! Thank you for listening!

Yes Cam that would be very helpful. To add, it would be good if enabled across all polygon modes: highlight, focus, and measurement. Thanks

And the default drawing as well as the other polygon modes.

From the 5.32 - 16 October 2024 release notes:
As requested on our Community, you can now adjust the transparency of your highlight and focus polygon fills by updating the transparency in the color picker. Some of our customers had many overlapping features and the default transparency could obscure cartographic data.
This is a welcome update as we can now adjust the fill transparency. Still hoping we can have control over the highlight and focus polygon line transparency in a future update.

Cam Barnard Is there any eta on the larger solution? adjusting the fill has had big impact but we have a few other challenges
