Only filter/query on layers turned on

It would be very useful if you could choose to only allow filtering/querying on layers that are turned on. If you have many layers in your viewer, the drop-down list for querying/filtering can seem quite overwhelming when all the possible layers are displayed and takes some time finding the correct one

I saw in the post below regarding a similar issue, that an argument against this is the possibility to query on non-spatial layers. However, there might be an issue to find a ay around having the drop-down consist of non-spatial layer and turned on layers. 

Further, we agree, that it would be useful for the layer to turn on after filter/query.

  For our customer (province of West-Vlaanderen Belgium), this functionality would be very useful. I see it has the status of planned now. Is there any information about the progress or timing of the release? Thanks in advance.
