Problem:
While creatinga geometric network using the in UT Database Schema Creation Tool,
network objects are not snapped. Network connectivity is not ensured.
Cause:
In ArcGIS 10 the behavior of creation of a geometric network with Snapping has been
changed. At intersecting lines a vertex is created also without connection in the
geometric network. Therefore unsatisfactory results in the UT generalization could
arise.
This also affects the creation of a geometric network using the UT Database Schema
Tool. During the installation and transfer of a geometric network, from now the
snapping is always deactivated, to avoid changes of lines.
Solution:
Using two new quick tasks as of now there is a possibility to change the snapping
behavior during creation of the geometric network as follows:
Export network definition from you parameterization database using quick task
"Export geom. NW definitions to UT Schema XML file". Adapt the parameter
UseXYsForSnapping to true using an adequate XML editor. After that the network
can be created in the target database with activated snapping using quick task
"Import geom. NW definitions from UT Schema XML file", but additional vertices
arise at intersections of lines.
In case of migrations (e.g. using FME) of network data to UT for ArcGIS therefore
should be paid attention to the required position accuracy of lines and net points.
Thus later the networks can be built with deactivated snapping, resulting in no
additional vertices.
Note: Esri's BUG entry for "NIM076675 - Vertices are added at intersection of features after building geometric networks" is unfortunately no longer publicly viewable. |
