VertiGIS Studio Analytics is a net new replacement for Geocortex Analytics, engineered to meet a number of user requirements that Geocortex Analytics could not, and focusing on the next generation of VertiGIS Studio and ArcGIS products. Generally, you can think of Geocortex Analytics as the software that is compatible with Geocortex Essentials and related to ArcGIS infrastructure, whereas VertiGIS Studio Analytics is the software that is compatible with the VertiGIS Studio suite of products.
Key differences include:
- Support for the VertiGIS Studio family of products. Starting with VertiGIS Studio Web and Mobile – VertiGIS Studio Analytics will take the approach of collecting data directly from the applications. Where Geocortex Analytics monitored your GIS systems to attempt to predict where users might be impacted, VertiGIS Studio Analytics prioritizes reporting on the actual experience of your user’s applications.
- Technology driven performance improvements. Geocortex Analytics shared the same underlying architecture that was built fir Geocortex Essentials; an architecture that was more appropriate for backing a Web Application framework than for supporting a complex data analysis application and suffered from some stability problems. VertiGIS Studio Analytics is built on new underlying technologies from the ground up, learning from Geocortex Analytics, and is a platform that will support us well into the future.
Here are some frequently asked questions about the transition from Geocortex to Studio Analytics:
Can I migrate my data from Geocortex Analytics to VertiGIS Studio Analytics?
As VertiGIS Studio Analytics is an entirely new platform, it is not possible to migrate data into it from any other system. When VertiGIS Studio Analytics is configured to monitor an ArcGIS Server, it will parse all existing logs (ArcGIS Server log retention defaults to 90 days) so it is possible to recreate some history in this case. In this context, it is important to note that for full reporting, VertiGIS Studio Analytics requires ArcGIS Server to have verbose logging turned on, otherwise it will only report on errors and warnings.
Can I run Geocortex Analytics and VertiGIS Studio Analytics in parallel?
Yes, although we offer the following suggestions/best practices to avoid confusing the two systems and creating unnecessary complexity:
- We strongly recommend against installing both on the same server due to the significant resource requirements of both hub systems.
- We recommend against monitoring the same GIS resources from both Geocortex Analytics and VertiGIS Studio Analytics.
I am a current Geocortex Analytics customer. Can I try out VertiGIS Studio Analytics?
Depending on how you licensed Geocortex Analytics, you may be entitled to VertiGIS Studio Analytics. Contact your Account Manager to find out more.
I was able to do 'x' in Geocortex Analytics, and can't find the same functionality in VertiGIS Studio Analytics. Is that feature coming?
Exact feature parity with Geocortex Analytics is not our goal. We are focusing on monitoring your ArcGIS Infrastructure (Servers, ArcGIS Servers, Portals and ArcGIS Online) in support of the applications (Web and Mobile) that you create.
If there's something that you liked in Geocortex Analytics that you don't see in VertiGIS Studio Analytics, the first place to check is our Community Ideas Page. You can add your suggestion or see if others have requested the same functionality. You can help increase the priority and visibility of their post, or see a response from our products team as to whether that feature is being developed, or reasons that it may be not planned.
