Creating a Legend for Print Templates
Hi all,
I'm attempting to create a legend for use in a print template in Geocortex Essentials however I can't find detailed instructions on the process anywhere. From my understanding adding a legend is essentially like adding a subreport to a print template, but how do you include the legend as it appears on your map for printing? Would it be possible for someone to explain to me the correct procedure for this? Many thanks!

I'm no expert at this, just a trial and error hard knocks participant. If you look at the reports that come with the Essentials installation you'll see a Legend.rpx along with a couple of print template .rpx files in the folder under ..\Sites\Resources\PrintTemplates. Opening one of the print templates in Report Designer you'll see a Legend area consisting of a small label box for the word Legend and below it a long tall box for the legend itself. The legend box was originally created by dragging the Legend report component from the Geocortex Essentials palette and it automatically links it to the Legend.rpx file in the same directory as the print template you are working on. This works fine for vertical legends going down the side of a print page. If you want to create a horizontal legend area with multiple columns going across a print template, e.g,. portrait orientations, then I've found it's a bit more work. For horizontal legends, see my posting in the Silverlight Viewer thread called Multiple Columns in Legend http://support.geocortex.com/Forums/Thread.aspx?pageid=0&mid=2&ItemID=7&thread=45575
Hope this helps.
