First user of site gets an error message
I'm seeing something similar to another recent post where the first user to hit a site in the morning might get an error message saying one of the layers is unavailable. This is version 3.4.2. It isn't always the same layer that generates the error. All the map services for this site come from the same server.
I first encountered the problem when I set up the site for public access on our production server. Initially I thought the problem might be related to our reverse proxy, but I've been able to duplicate the problem on the development server inside the firewall.
The behavior is intermittent, but I can usually duplicate the problem by bouncing the server, then opening the site after verifying all the services have started. If I refresh the browser right after the error, the site loads normally. This isn't really a problem with the site loading slow, it's more like the map service isn't ready when the site loads.
I'm going to set up the script that Craig T. posted a couple days ago to see if that's a workaround. Any other ideas?

Is this for a silverlight viewer? I have never had this issue with the silverlight viewer but I do run the sleepy services script to keep my rest services from falling asleep. However I still get periodic timeouts with .net adf sites. I would try implementing the script and see if it works. Its really more of an ArcGIS server issue than essentials from what I understand. I believe this was fixed in version 10 but I am still on 9.3.1

Some more info I should have included in the first post:
This is a Silverlight site, using version 1.3 of the viewer. The server is Version 10 with SP1.

I would say the refresh script probably should work then unless its an AGS 10 issue.

An update...
Running the script once a day at 7:00am has taken care of the problems I was experiencing when the first user of the day accessed the site.
