Upgrading to 3.6 Questions
Since the new release is only for the REST side and it is 64bit how would I handle upgrading my current instance which is running both 3.5.1 with web adf and rest sites. I am curious if I will need to create a new instance or if the old instance will leave the web adf in the 32 bit environment and the new instance will move to the 64bit environment. Will this require me to rename the new or old instance of essentials.

Similar question here. When I go to upgrade I get the error "The default instance contains Web ADF elements which cannot be upgraded by the installer. Please select a different instance using 'options' buttons or refer to the release notes for more information". The release note do not mention anything about this upgrade (probably should). The only information in the notes is how to create another instance, which I do not want to do. Since I do not use the Web ADF (it was just installed as default), I would just like to upgrade the current unnamed version of the REST, but that seems impossible.
Seems like a lot of unnecessary work to create a new instance and migrate all my sites?
Thanks,
Craig

I ran into the same problem on my dev machine but got around it by re-running my old Essentials installer (.msi) and selecting to modify instead of uninstall and deselecting the web adf components. Then when I ran the new 3.6 installer it proceeded fine.

As of Essentials 3.6, REST Elements and Web ADF Elements have been split into independent packages.
If you try to upgrade an instance of Essentials that has Web ADF Elements with the 3.6 REST Elements package, you'll get an error message.
You can do several things to avoid this error message.
- Install Geocortex Essentials 3.6 into a new instance.
This will place the Essentials program into a separate folder in your Program Files directory. The Post Installer will include this new instance name in the path that includes your selected instance name. This is the best course of action if you have existing Web ADF sites that you wish to retain.
If you also have existing REST sites, you can upgrade them by moving your existing REST applications out of the way (with the older version's post installer), deploying the new 3.6 REST Elements applications so that they appear in the same folder in IIS, then finally migrating the sites from the older version to the new 3.6 version.
If you chose this option please read the "Before Installing Geocortex Essentials 3.6.0" document on the downloads page to ensure any old instances of REST Elements continue to work correctly.
- Remove the Web ADF Elements from the existing installation, then do an in-place upgrade.
This option is the best if you don't have any Web ADF sites to keep. Launch the installer for your existing Essentials install from the Control Panel and select "Change", then select the "do not install" option for the Web ADF Elements. With the Web ADF Elements component removed, you'll be able to upgrade with the Essentials 3.6 installer.
- Remove all versions of Essentials and install Essentials 3.6
This process is best if you don't have any sites or configuration to keep. Uninstall all copies of Essentials on your computer before installing Essentials 3.6.

Thank you very much for your help Ryan, option 2 work. As a side note this information should probably go into the release note.
Many Thanks,
