Multiple Feature Maps (same scale, different content) in a Report
Hi to all
I would like to create a report that has two Feature Maps in it but more specifically they need to have either different sources or be able to turn the layers off within the same mapservice.
The two maps will be of the same area, highlighting the same parcel but one with relatively historic aerial imagery (ie 2005) and the other with current (2011) imagery.
Has anybody done this using the standard report writing?
I have got a report happily working with 2 maps but one is just an overview zoomed out version of the other rather than different content.
Thanks

Hi to all
just thought that I would rephrase my question to " would anyone else like to be able to do this ?"
Surely we are not the only ones who might like to do this. Our District Plan aka Town Plan is a map series where we have different content on the left facing page compared to the right facing page. If I can organise two maps in one report with different content and the same scale/extent/selection then I can have a report that simulates the Town Planning maps on a per property basis.
Maybe it is a potential enhancement?
Thanks

Ralph,
So are you saying that it cannot be done? LG any comments? or local supplier/support in NZ?
If it can't OOTB, then I'd love to see this as an enhancement so +1 for me!!
cheers

Hi Gareth
Yes, as far as I can tell it can not be done. Essentially the maps included in a report are all defined by the source of the layer that is being set up to have a report. They can be of varying scale, and the content ends up being driven by the various display scales in the source map services.
I would love to be proofed wrong ;-)

Ralph and Gareth,
To answer the question concicely, no - it's not possible OOTB in configuration.
I have seen workflows which embed images at the same extent with different visible layers into a report - this can be done very nearly OOTB using workflow, and the new WebRequest activity which can download a map image from the Essentials REST endpoint with any combination of layers you'd like. Getting this into a standard layer report would involve a bit more work in the form of scripting in the RPX file, which may not be trivial (but possible).

Hi John
thanks for the confirmation that this is not currently possible by default.
Have you found a good way to get an image from a AGS REST Endpoint with a selection as compared to just what layers are turned on and an extent?
I will have a look at alternative processes to place images into a report where the url is generated via the WebRequest that you suggested.
Best regards
