The calling thread must be STA

I've just created a new workflow.  The sequence has a flowchart within it.  I've added an Assign activity to this.  When running the Workflow Simulator in Workflow Designer I get an error:

Aborted exception: 'The calling thread must be STA, because many UI components require this.'.

Any idea why this is happening?
