Resolving coded domain and subtypes at ArcGIS 10.1
Hello,
Forgive me if this information is readily available, but I'd like to know the best approach for resolving coded domain and subtypes. We are working on an extremely large site (as in, a lot of layers) with a client who has a vast amount of established data. As any good ArcGIS user, they utilize numerous coded value domains in almost every layer.
For our previous clients, we were in control of the data and so dispensed with the use of domains and subtypes in the data to make it's exposure in the Essentials site and reports easier to handle. However that will most likely not be possible with this current client.
I found a (https://support.geocortex.com/Forums/Thread.aspx?pageid=0&mid=54&ItemID=16&thread=45010&postid=129704) forum posting related to using the ResolveCodedDomainsAndSubtypes attribute against local .MSD "Optimized" Map Services. This post noted that this was only supported for services based directly on MXDs, that MSDs were not supported. This post was also in the WebADP forum and therefore, I don't even know if this attribute is (or was) supported with the Silverlight viewer. I assume that even if this attribute is/was supported with the Silverlight viewer it may not be at 10.1 due to the changes in how services are published.
Our client is at ArcGIS Server 10.1, Essentials 3.9 and Silverlight Viewer 1.5. Is there a solution for resolving coded domains in this combo and if not, if and when will this solution be available?
As always, your prompt response is greatly appreciated!

Cassandra,
yeah - this is a major sticking point with a lot of us.... it's been on here before - simply search the silverlight forum for domains and it should rear it's ugly head.....
Short story - you cannot simply do it out of the box with 1.5, not even with workflow. The workaround I think many of have reverted to is literally hard-coding the values (description and value) into the combo box forms - so not ideal, but at least it presents the user with the correct results.
I've not read anything as yet that shows it's been supported, nor when it may be - but I stand to be corrected on that one ; )
have fun

Hi Gareth and Cassandra
taking the search results with a grain of salt of course since sometimes you can't even find a word or phrase in a post that you were just looking at. ;-)

Yes, searching (or rather, finding) is a challenge. I apparently missed all the posts your talking about since I didn't make domain plural during any of my searches.
Thanks for the confirmation that automated resolving is not possible. Since we need these values to available in the viewer directly as well (in the identify results and be available for the user when they export identified results to CSV), we may have to go the route of exporting the domain to a table, etc.
Thanks for the responses!
