Extract Markup to Shapefile - user can add attributes

I have been searching for a while to see if this is possible or not without luck.

It would be fantastic if a user could create their markup, extract to shapefile and be prompted to add attribution of some sort.

We have non-GIS users that would like to make use of the online maps to create study area boundaries using markup/ extract to shapefile.  It seems that if some sort of attribution were able to be added as part of the extraction, it would be much easier for the GIS person receiving the extracted shapefile to know which file is which.
