EssentialsAppPool4 shutting down server
Hello,
I have a server running Essentials that keeps shutting down with the message "A worker process with process id of '697404' serving application pool 'EssentialsAppPool4' has requested a recycle because the worker process reached its allowed processing time limit." I haven't seen a message like this before. Any suggestions? This has been a very stable system.
Thanks,
Brad Zaba

Hi Brad,
What is the message ID for this message? Is it 5074? If so, take a look at this TechNet page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc735298(v=ws.10).aspx
The default recycle timeout for an application pool is 29 hours. After 29 hours, if the process is still running, it will request a recycle.
Recycling the app pools isn't a problem for Essentials REST because it's stateless. However, if the recycle causes the app pool to crash, then we do have a problem! Is that what's happening?

Brad and Malcom,
Did you find anything that was causing this? After upgrading to Essentials 4.0.2 my EssentialsAppPool4 has been consuming way more memory than it had in the past. My server got to 99% memory used after maxing up the page file size on one of the hard drives, and eventually caused a server downtime (process grew to 10+gb). My two largest memory consumers on this server are now w3wp.exe for Essentials and EssentialsAdmin - that honor used to go to javaw.exe (arcgis server verbose logging for Optimizer). I was having trouble with my Identity Server, which may have been part of the problem as this has leveled off some here today after making a fix.

Jamie and Malcolm,
After digging through IIS and Geocortex (including Malcom's suggestion) for several days, I figured out my situation was a hardware issue. My apologies for not checking back in on this, it took a good deal of time to figure out the hardware problem which was a failing system board.
Regards,
Brad
