Graphics Symbol

Is there a method of changing a Graphic's Symbol from within a workflow? Sending a graphic to a Graphicslayer without a symbol seems to result in not displaying it, and I can't seem to define a symbol individually to a graphic (only to the entire graphicslayer). It must be possible, since the drawing toolbar allows you to define symbology. Any help?
