Workflow to control the map layers list

We have a workflow which allows the user to search the metadatabase for layers then from the set of results, the user can make any of those layers visible in the map.

However the workflow has no control over the map layers pane.  As a result, although the layer is now visible in the map, the user can't see that layer in the layers pane, because all the map services and group layers in the map layers list are still collapsed.

A useful enhancement to a workflow would be for it to be able to control the map layers list, to expand the appropriate map service and group layer so that a particular map layer is shown.
