Charting Limitations
Hi, I was creating a website with many charts in it and came across certain user-interface limitations that I would like to share with Geocortex staff. I am on the latest version of the HTML5 viewer - 2.5.2
1) If a chart is configured so that the zoom to feature option and the show feature details option is turned on for the chart and then when you click on a category in the pie chart which represents multiple features on the map, only the first feature is zoomed to and feature details are opened for only that feature. The other features in that category cannot be zoomed to and feature details cannot be seen for the other features. Ideally all the features in that category should be zoomed to and a list of all the features in that category should be shown in the feature details pane or there could be functionality to repetedly click on the pie chart category which should either cycle through all the features in that category for zooming to and displaying feature details.
2) Default charts for each layer have to be selected compulsorily and if you have a lot of layers with charts configured in your map, then the feault chart for each layer will open at the same time, crowding the charts frame. Ideally, there should be an option to show only one default chart for the entire map rather than show default charts for each layer.
3) When you want to turn a chart off that is on you have to open the 'Select Charts' drop down list box. However, you are only allowed to close or open one chart a atime before the drop-down box closes. It becomes very tedious to repeatedly open the 'Select Charts' drop-down list box each time you want to select or unselect a chart. Ideally, the drop-down box should stay open until the user is done selecting and unselecting multple charts at the same time.
Thanks.

Hi Soham,
I've chatted with the developer who implemented charting for the HTML5 viewer and we've taken a look at the behaviour you've described and the suggestions you've made. To your specific points:
1) If you have multiple features selected, the viewer should zoom to all of them. If it isn't doing that, that's likely a bug. We may need to follow up with you about your configuration -- is the site where you're seeing this publicly-accessible?
With regard to displaying feature details for each feature, the HTML5 viewer currently functions like the Silverlight viewer: it only displays the details for the first feature. This behaviour is documented in Chart Settings section (33.5) of the Essentials documentation: “Feature Details: Opens the Feature Details dialog box, which displays details about a feature when that feature is clicked on the chart. If more than one feature is selected, details about only the first one display.”
The ability to cycle through the different features does make sense; I'll ensure that this idea is filed as an improvement for future consideration.
2) It appears that both the HTML5 viewer and Manager assume that one of the charts will be selected as the default. I will file an improvement to remove this assumption and dependency.
3) We've recently (i.e., in the 2.6 viewer) moved to a native control for chart selection. I'm following up with the team to see if this will allow for multiselection. If it does not, I will file an improvement for this, as well.
I hope that addresses your concerns and suggestions.0 -
Thaks Jordan,
My map is not publicly accessible unfortunaetely, but I think my map does zoom to all the selected features, but just does not cycle its zoom through each feature on subsequent chart clicks, which is what I was looking for and as you indicated it is a limitation currently.
Thanks again for filing those 3 improvements that I highlighted.0
