Copied a site, made changes to copied site, original site changes
I made a copy of a site in order to test out adding some new maps, map tips.
When I load the original site, the changes that I made to the new copied site are also changing in the original site.
When I log into Geocortex Essentials and look at the properties in the original site (map services, etc), there aren't any new ones. Even the map tip configuration is missing, but it is showing in the original site when the site is loaded.
I am using Geocortex Essentials Manager 4.0.0 and the HTML5 2.0 viewer.
Has this happened to anyone else before? I've made copies of sites before without this happening.
The names of the original site and new testing site are similar but they are not the same.
When I preview the viewer by clicking 'Desktop', 'Tablet', 'Handheld', I can see the original site (without the changes). When I launch the viewer from the 'Launch URL' or from our public website, the original site is shown with all fo the changes that I made to the copied site.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Allison

Hi Allison,
I see similar issues in Essentials version 3.11 but not 4.0. With the 3.11 issue the copied site still contained the URL of the original sites viewers.
To look into this further I would recommend submitting a support ticket to support@latitudegeo.com or ideally I would recommend upgrading to a current version as this would most likely resolve the issue and give you access to the latest features.

I am running essentials manager 4.9 and html5 2.10 viewer. When edit the viewer URL in the copied site, the changes I made in the copied site also are reflected in the original site. 0 -
This has happened to me once or twice on GE 4.6 and the GVH 2.7 - but I've made tons of changes to multiple sites copied from one source site. I've only seen stuff get overwritten a couple of times, and it was usually while I was simultaneously making edits in GE Manager and directly in the site and viewer config files. 0 -
So to be clear...
I'm fully up to date as of July 5 2018. If I get a nice looking basic site, I can copy it, paste with a new name, (delete the viewers there?), and there will be no annoying daisy chain whenever I change something like happens with the "reference an existing site" option of the create site wizard?
That would save me a lot of time.
thanks all!0 -
When you copy/paste the site folder (I assume that's what you're meaning) make sure you edit the site.xml of the copy and change the ID in the <Site> tag at the top of the file, otherwise you will have issues due to duplicate site names. 0 -
Bobbi,
You can use Manager to make a copy of the site. You do not need to delete the viewers. Once copied, it is separate from the original.0 -
Thanks guys! Yes, I used manager. Just wanted to make sure! 0 -
