How do you control the size of a Layer Chart?

I can get the Layer Chart control to work correctly in my report however I cannot get it to work within the confines of the control element box I draw.  It works great if given the entire page to display but I only want it to display within a smaller area of a report.  I have tried all the SizeMode options with no luck.

  Hi Diane,

   

  What kind of behaviour are you seeing when it doesn't work within its control element? Is it not showing at all, showing partially, or showing fully but scaled incorrectly?  Maybe you could provide a picture if it's not a simple answer.

  It only shows partially...as if it will not scale to smaller size to fit the control element.

  Hi Diane,

   

  There definitely seems to be a minimum size that the ChartControl needs in order to draw the chart correctly, but looking at it on my end it seems fairly reasonable. If you haven't done this yet, try opening the wizard for the ChartControl in the report and uncheck the "visible" box for all of the other elements (header, footer, axis titles, legend, etc).  Then see if you can resize your ChartControl any smaller and get it to behave properly.  The ChartControl seems to honour the display settings for those elements before concerning itself with finding room to draw the actual chart.

  Hi Diane,

   

  Sorry, that was my bad for not reading more carefully. I've tried to reproduce the issue on my end again with the Layer Chart instead, but my results were about the same as before.  I was able to get my chart to display incorrecly when using stretch/zoom size modes, but only when I had the control box scaled down to barely-human-readable sizes.

   

  I think that there is a minimum size needed to render all of the elements correctly, and that probably depends a lot on the information that's being displayed (a bar chart with 18 bars and long labels is going to need more space than one with 2 bars). I was able to some really tiny-sized charts (to-scale picture included below) by getting rid of the legend and horizontal axis title at map > layer > charts > + more options.

   

  

   

  Does that match your experience, or is your chart already really bare-bones?  If it isn't, I would recommend testing with a more bare-bones version to see what happens.
