Has anyone been asked to allow users to connect to external map services?

  Hi Chris,

   

  Can you clarify what you're asking for?  Which users are being allowed - users of Essentials Manager ("administrators"), or users of a viewer?  Would these users be signed in to ArcGIS Online?

   

  How external are the map services?  Do you mean external to the Site, as in services published to an onsite ArcGIS Server, or within a Portal, or just some arbitrary public service out on the Internet?

  Hi Malcolm,

   

  Yes, I can explain.  I was experimenting with the ‘new’ “Add Layers” button that I added to one of my sites.  I noticed that whenever I search for layers using this button, results are only returned from ArcGIS Online.  I’m just wondering if there is any way that other sources of map services could be accessed by people using the “Add Layers” button.  I am aware that the “Layer Catalog” button allows users to add layers from a ‘reference’ site.

  You should add service connections in manager and select the Search in Manager and Viewers radiobutton for the connections.
