Data link Subreports and Parent report

I too (like Brad Fisher - posting from 2012) am looking to understand configuration for a report which includes sub-reports - My subreport is working, however, I am getting a very generic error that the attempt to run my (parent) report was unsuccessful.   Is there any description/documentation of subreports and the use of datalinks?

  There's some limited documentation in the Report Designer's Help. If you search for subreport, there's an article called Include a Subreport in a Report that details how to link them together.

   

  If you're getting a generic on your main report, then I suggest the ol' trial and error technique. Save a copy, and test adding each individual element to a new report until you find one that throws the error.

The other place to look is in the Sample Sites Folder. If you copy the LA County site over to the Sites folder, you can open it up in Manager and see all the different configurations in there. One of them includes the multi-layer report or subreport in the Zip Codes layer.
