When will the Javscript Swipe tool be supported ?
Hello,
I have an application that requires the user to compare two time layers together, to search for differences between 2 different road evolution scenarios.
While it is possible to toggle on/off the layers to find differences, and even use the transparency tool when the layers are configured form different MapServers, it would be a whole lot beter to use a real swipe tool.
The ESRI JavaScript API has such tool, seen here:
https://developers.arcgis.com/javascript/3/samples/widget_swipe/
Is there a timeframe for the HTML Viewer to support that function ? I recall seeing a swipe tool in the SilverLight API...
Thank you
Jeff

This would be an awesome feature! 0 -
Any updates on this Lattitude? I'd have thought HTML5 would have feature parity with silverlight by now. 0 -
Hi Lauren,
The Silverlight API had the functionality but not the Silverlight viewer. The HTML5 viewer has a transparency and time slider, I believe they are meant to provide the same functionality as the swipe API function did.

Hi Wayne,
Whilst those are great functions, which we do use, the swipe function would still be a valuable addition. it's a different user experience being able to control the layer at that specific point on the map and swipe back and forth over it. My example here is comparing two different analyses of the same remote sensing data.- We need a basemap in the background so can't use the basmap groups/slider.
- The data is all from the same time period so time isn't relevant.
- We've published the two layers in the same map service since it's from the same business group, so transparency slider won't work.
I do acknowledge that if we really want to we could publish them separately and use transparency. I hadn't thought of that BUT we do try to keep the number of services to a minimum if we can. I could possibly look at layer catalog layers to get around that. Anyway, the point being that a swipe tool would still be useful and provides a different use/experience for the user.0 -
Hi Lauren,
Thank you for the further details. I would suggest posting in the "Ideas" section of this site as our Product team and developers look to that area to see what people are most interested in. The more interest, the more likely it will get implemented.
