Exit viewer from a workflow in HTML5 or open web page in current window?
Well, it's been three years since anyone asked about this for HTML5, so I'm going to try it again:
Is there any way to exit a viewer from a workflow in HTML5 or open a new viewer in the same window?
I want to use a viewer as a pass through to launch other viewers based on the result of a SQL Query in a workflow.
The first viewer opens with URL parameters that are used by a workflow to identify another viewer to launch. This works just fine using the OpenWebPage external command. The second viewer launches as expected, but the original viewer is still sitting there.
I'd like to cleanly open the new viewer while closing the first one - or even better - open the new viewer in the same window/tab.
Does anyone have a solution to this?
Anyone?
Anyone?

Hey Sean,
I'm not sure there is a way to replace the URL of the current browser tab via a command. It might be possible to present the user with a workflow form to click a link.
Alternatively you'd need to make a custom module to handle the action automatically.

Sean,
Any luck? I'm using the OpenWebPage external command in the HTML5 viewer, but I really want it to just use the same tab, not open up another tab/window.0 -
No luck yet. Well, no effort to forge any luck yet. It's apparent that acustom piece of JavaScript code is needed. If you have any JavaScript coders handy, they can write a cusotm JavaScript function and incorporate it into your viewer configuration so it can be called from the workflow with a RunExternalCommand activity. We found other workarounds for what we were trying to accomplish.
I still wish Latitude would do this work for us by bringing back the workfow activity they had for SilverLight . . . Latitude? Hello? sigh0 -
Thanks, Sean. Totally agree. This functionality needs to be there. 0 -
Sean,
I found this post:

Brian posted some code that will open the URL in the same window. I would love to see this be an out of the box solution so I don't have to manually add it to every site's Desktop.json.js file.0 -
oooh. That looks tasty. But, yes, it would be nice not to have to manually add it to every .json . . . I don't need it in every viewer, though . . . so . .
Thanks for the heads up to this post!0 -
I agree!! The ability to create a customized Sign in url is great, but with no way of applying it to a site to open target=_sefl kind of defeats the purpose, right! 0
