GeoCortex Disconnected
We have been using GeoCortex for the past 5 years as our platform of choice to distribute information throughout the corporation. We are planning on using the GeoCortex environment to support our Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for disaster planning and response. However, we have a concern regarding the dependency on connected services to the intranet. We would like to run the GeoCortex product in a closed ecosystem, with no access to the outside world for support. Has anyone been able to run the GeoCortex products with a connection to the internet for product support?

Hi James,
If you're looking to run your viewer solely within your network, there's a configurable option to use a local copy of its APIs -- there's more information in (https://support.geocortex.com/essentialsGSCkba?sub-nav=kba&main-nav=essentials&feedtype=SINGLE_ARTICLE_SEARCH_RESULT&id=kA3600000008QTt) this article . If you're looking to run the viewer completely disconnected from any network, you'll want to take a look at Geocortex Mobile App Framework.
Does that help?0 -
Thanks Jordan, I will have the development team look into the info you provided via the link. We are looking to run the HTML5 viewer solely within our network. This removes the dependencies in case of an internet connection disruption. 0 -
Most of Santa Rosa's infrastructure sits within a mile (often MUCH less) of a major fault line that is over due. About 10 years ago we built a new building outside of the major liquifaction areas, and it was built to a much higher earthquake standard. It made sense to move our EOC to this site. We also decided to put a major secondary data center over there as well. Once it was decided that GIS would be crucial in any major EOC event, we started moving all of the GIS infrastructure to that building as well (we replicate across the City), including all of the virtual servers used by GIS. We also duplicate internet connectivity between City Hall and the EOC site across town. We have Advanced Enterprise (ArcGIS Server) and publish all of our own services, so we don't depend on AGOL, though we do have stuff there as well. We are not getting rid of our paper maps, but we are hoping that our network remains in the building, even if nowhere else... 0 -
Mike, we have a very similar infrastructure, however we do not have the fault line or liquefaction issue as mentioned. We do not rely on anything outside of our network in terms of GIS data. All our GIS data is hosted internally via direct access or web services to our Oracle Warehouse. However, last week we had a disruption in our Intranet access, failure by the service provider. Our local internal network was active and working between facilities such as file sharing, ArcServer and Oracle was not disrupted. However, when a user started a new session with GeoCortex it required an outside connection for some API’s. This is where my concern is, and as Jordan noted there is a fix for this. We will be investigating these fixes. 0
