Display result picker - highlight feature

Hi,

 

I’m trying to make a user choose a feature form a list, using Display result picker activity, and I would like that feature highlights as soon as user clicks on it (like features in result table) to give assurance that correct feature is going to be selected.

 

I’m surprise that it doesn’t work as activity’s input arguments are “Map service Id” and “Layer Id”. Do I need to have featureSet set in a particular way to have highlights (or zoom) coming up? What is “Map service Id” and “Layer Id” argument used for?

 

Additional info: FeatureSet contains Geometry. I’m able to highlight selected feature after user clicks “ok” button. “Map service Id” and “Layer Id” are set with value that matches site.xml. Using Layer Id or Layer Name doesn’t make a difference. Selection mode = ‘Single’. Using GE 4.6 Html5 Viewer 2.7.

  Hi Francesca,

   

  The behaviour of the Display Results Picker in 2.7 doesn't include highlighting of a feature whenever a user clicks on one. Starting 2.8 though this is possible and available out of the box.

   

  For now you could use commands in hyperlinks as part of a feature description to somehow achieve a similar result. For instance you could set the Description Format to something like "<a href=""command:ShowMapTip?{$Feature}""> HYPERLINK_TEXT </a>" so that whenever the user clicks on that "HYPERLINK_TEXT" a map tip is shown and a pushpin is placed on the map.

  Thanks for the hyperlink command tip Sergio!  It works nicely.

   

  I have a result picker in a workflow.  With the map service id and layer id set.  The selection mode is single.  The behavior of the picker list highlights on mouse hover and keeps the selected feature highlighted.

  This becomes uselss when dealing with small features spread across a state.  The highlight cannot be seen or is very hard to catch.  Does this work with map pins?  Showing a map pin would help.

  The current extent of the viewer also limits what can be seen.  For the hover behavior this makes sense.

   

  It would be great if the clicking if we had a couple more options on the results picker that would happen when an feature is selected.  Center on feature (bool) and scale (int).  This would then center the feaure and/or set a scale.

   

  For now it looks like I'll be calling a workflow from a hyperlinke from the label or description.  This solution doesn't make for the best UX but is at least function.

  Sergio/Tyson,

   

  I am using a fairly old version (GVH 2.6) and want to highlight the feature in the map when a feature in the results list is selected.  I am not really interested in showing a map tip or a pushpin on the features when they are selected from the results list because they are clustered and highlight should work in all cases.  Maybe you can give me an example of what you did, Tyson, to get highlights to work?
