Ge4.6.3/ GVH 2.7.2: Editing the related table without adding the feature class (editable layer)
We couldn’t figure out if it is possible to edit the related table without adding the feature class to the site, this is to prevent our users from editing the feature class and only edit the related table.

I have the same observation. The related table can’t be edited unless accessed by the editable layer! Accessing the related table from the noneditable layer doesn’t allow editing. Of course, this is a big limitation in case editing permissions are required to be granted to the table but not the layer.

If you are editing in this fashion the table would need to be included in the site. I haven't tried this, but I think it may be possible to edit a related geodatabase table using Workflow. We regularly use workflow to perform edits on feature layers and SQL tables without actually adding them to the site. 0 -
Thanks David,
The issue here is that I need to allow editing on the table but to disallow it on the feature class this table is associated to. Is this still possible without the need to create workflow?

Hi Majdoleen & Jamal,
You can enable the global search of the editable related table without adding the feature class (editable layer) as below:

Thanks Lubna. That’s good.
However, approaching the editable table from the “identify” tool doesn’t give an access to edit it (table). In return, if the a value (in the relate table) is searched by “global search”, then editing the related table is possible.0
