Restoring Geocortex Core

Any tips for restoring Geocortex Core? Sophos decided that the Java.exe in Core was malicious and destroyed Core, eventhough we whitelisted it. We ended up having to reinstall Core. We have backups of the datastore but looking for guidance to replace the new datastore with the backup to restore saved projects.

  Hi Tom,

   

  Here's what I would do:

   

  1) Uninstall Geocortex Core from the control panel

   

  2) Delete the Core Data directory

   

  3) Re-run the Post installer to Reinstall Core. Make sure to use the same cluster name you used previously.

   

  4) When Core is reinstalled, and you have confirmed that your sites are working, stop the Geocortex Core service

   

  5) Replace the following folder:

   

  C:\Program Files\Latitude Geographics\Geocortex Core\Data\DocumentStore\DocumentStore\ClusterName

   

  with the one from your backup.  

   

  6) Start the Geocortex Core service

   

  That should do the trick.  If your Essentials server is part of a cluster though, the process is a little different.  You will need to stop Core on all the cluster nodes, and be sure to start Core on the node with the restored Document Store folder first.

  Thanks Danny restored our data store following your suggestion. quick questions. 

  1. Is it necessary to stop Geocortex Core first before backup Core Data folder?
  2. What if the new Cluster has a different name

  BTW, for who may interested, if you have a large DocumentStore to restore, after you restart Core, it might require several minutes to get fully functional (before that, you won't be able to access the Site manager or viewer).

  Hi Jack,

   

  We recommend stopping Core because some of the files may be locked and therefore not copied correctly.  Also, if Core is running, more files can appear during the copy.

   

  I'm not actually sure what would happen if the cluster name was different, it's not something we would test for.  If possible I would use the same cluster name to avoid unpredictable results.
