Dynamic layers or automated LayerCatalogue lookup

Hi,

 

I have a workflow that (as an example) filters an animal distribution layer based on user selected animal name. In addition, users are interested in seeing other layers that relate to that specific animal, but as the layers are only occasionally used and there are many animals, we did not want to add these additional layers to the layer list, but have them in a layer catalogue. However, many users don't get that they can add the extra layers or don't know which ones to pick. 

 

How could I go about automatically adding the additional layers to the layer list  when a user filters on animal name? I was thinking dynamic layers (first choice) or automating the layer catalogue lookup - any advice and more details on how to go about this? I am comfortable with code.

  I found the AddMapService external command, but this only seems to be for FeatureLayers. My additional layers are raster layers. Thanks for any ideas.

  I figured it out. It's an undocumented command AddCatalogLayers("SiteID as a word. map service ID as a number. layer display name as a word").
