Workflow activity similar to ArcGIS Locate Features Along Routes?

I am in the process of developing an application which allow users to click on a routed polyline and get the distance (measure) on a particular segment. Basically looking for the same functionality as ArcGIS tool locate features along routes. For example I have a routed river/stream layer, and I would like the user to be able to click on a line and have a pop-up window give the river mile at that location. I have been messing around with the linear referencing activities, extract line and extract point. Unfortunately, these tools seem to provide the opposite function of placing a point at a user specified location on a polyline. Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
