Trouble connecting to a publicly available REST endpoint
Im trying to make a publicly available REST endpoint available to my users in a Geocortex Site. I can connect to the REST via my ArcGIS Online account and I figured I could do the same in GC Essentials.
I type in the REST URL and the service appears but I keep getting the following error when I try to connect to it in Essentials:
There was an error connecting to the service.
The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.
Can anyone lend any insight to this error?

Are you talking about a mapservice that you're adding to the viewer? All I see about that error is server-side or proxy issues, could you provide the rest endpoint? Ultimately this may be a .net versioning issue or a certificate acceptance issue, or maybe a proxy somewhere isn't using the correct channel type. 0 -
Hi,
What is the service address? If it is using TLS 1.2 then you may need to implment the work around below. Essentials was built on the .NET 4.0 Framework which doesn't natively support TLS 1.2 connections.

Hello Zach & Mike,
The REST endpoint is:
https://hazards.fema.gov/gis/nfhl/rest/services/public/NFHL/MapServer
It is a map service Im attempting to add to the Viewer. The support link Mike sent along was brough to my attention by a Latitude Support Analyst. Im working with my IT department colleagues to get this implemented on the Essentials server to see if this is the cause.
Ill keep you posted.

Good Afternoon... I am also seeing issue connecting with the FEMA server after they added security. We have attempted the suggested fix and still can not connect. Was any working solution identified? I have re-opened my support ticket. 0 -
Have you tried adding the individual layers to your GE site? I got the error on the map service trying to add it to an ArcGIS Online map but not when adding individual layers from the map service. 0 -
Hi All,
I am having the same issue.
Andrew, has the suggested regedit method worked?
I have used Geocortex to add "https://hazards.fema.gov/gis/nfhl/rest/services/public/NFHL/MapServer" as a trusted server. I even imported FEMA's digicert to my ArcGIS Server cert store. No luck.
Has anyone suceeded?
Adding individual layers has no worked with Geocortex. However, I can use the mapservice in ArcGIS Desktop and in AGOL map viewer, just not Geocortex.
Soon, I will open my own ticket but... if someone knows something that *actually* works it would be great to share.
Thanks

Hi Wiley,
I can confirm that the fix will work, FEMA has disallowed less secure protocols. The process would be -
- run windows updates
- update dotnet framework to the latest available version
- apply registry settings
- restart server

Hi Wayne,
You rock! It works perfect.
Thank you for your extremely fast responce. Go Geocortex!
The details:
I updated my Geocortex server's .net to .NET Framework 4.7.2.
I added the registry keys as explained in
https://support.geocortex.com/essentialsGSCkba?id=kA360000000L14b (after backing up the reg first).
Restarted my Geocortex server and am now serving the official FEMA web services.
Thanks,

Ran into this when trying to add the GeoMAC (https://rmgsc.cr.usgs.gov/GeoMAC/services.shtml) wildland fire mapserver to Geocortex. The instructions in the KB solved the problem.
Adding a comment in case someone else is trying to find the solution by searching on "GeoMAC" (I only found this thread when I'd given up on adding GeoMAC and was looking for something else!).0
