Generic username/password popup to use viewer?

We are wanting to deploy a public facing Geocortex viewer, that would be available to anyone who has the url. However, we want to limit who can actually use the viewer. Is there a way to implement a popup that allows for a username/password to be entered to continue using the viewer? I know I could do a workflow, but I would think the username/password needed that I would look for, would be visible in the network traffic... or maybe this isn't the case? Anyone have any light to shed on the best way to go about this?

  If you disable anonymous access and configure a security provider, it will prompt you to log in before loading the viewer.
