Is it possible to store credentials in a link to a map?

  How do you mean?   With geocortex specifically, not that I know of though I do think I've heard of people figuring out how to store credentials in a cookie but only once a user had authenticated.  Generally speaking yes but there must be a better solution for you; at that point the map may as well be public.

  Hi,

   

  What type of Map URL are you referring to? ArcGIS Server map service security don't support passing usernames/password via the map service URL. However, I've seen 3rd party WMS providers doing basic authentication which requires a special proxy page in order to add to Essentials. If this is what you are referring to then I'd submit a support ticket.
