Upgrade Windows 2008 to 2012 - Server Error in '/' Application
We've recently upgdraded our server from Windows 2008 to 2012. Portal for ArcGIS, Geocortex Essentials Manager and our Georcortex web application are all working fine, however, other sites at the website root, and those built with Web AppBuilder will not load.
The browser returns a Server Error in '/' Application:
Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Geocortex.Platform.Roles.WebServiceProxy.IIS\v4.0_3.0.4.1571__9e7e3f641467b631\Geocortex.Platform.WebService.Proxy.dll' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
So there seems to be some reference to a Geocortex dll but I can't trace what the error is. The DLL does exist in the folder. Has anyone come across this issue before?

Hi Stephen,
What version of Essentials are you using? The Web Service Proxy was removed recently from Essentials so if you are using the latest version, it's not required. Depending on what version of Essentials you are running will determine the best path forward.

Hi Wayne,
Thanks for your reply. I upgraded to the latest version (4.9.2) to see whether it would resolve the issue, but it didn't. Prior to the Server OS upgrade it was on 4.9.0 and running without any issues.

Hi Stephen,
I would recommend submitting a support case to support@latitudegeo.com as there is a reference to the web service proxy somewhere that needs to be removed. It's probably in IIS Manager > Modules section but it would be good to have it removed while on a call with us.

Hi Wayne,
Many thanks - I found and deleted the module and everything seems to be working ok now.

Stephen and Wayne,
Which module needs to be deleted? We are experiencing a similar problem after upgrading (Windows 2008 R2 --> 20012 -->2016). Unfortunately, nothing loads for us...no GE manager, no map services, etc. We are getting the same "Could not load file or assembly...Geocortex.Platform.WebService.Proxy.dll' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified" error message though.
Thanks,

We haven't resolved the error after the OS upgrade. Fortunately, we were able to revert back to 2008R2. I still need to figure out what when wrong and how to fix it though. I found a module called Geocortex.Platform in the modules section of IIS. Is this the right one? Do I just select it and click Remove?
Thank you,

Hi Stephanie,
Yes, that is the correct module, it was removed from recent versions of Essentials but would still be required for older versions of Essentials (prior to 4.8 I believe).

We also upgraded from 2008 R2 to 2012 and then to 2016. Although Geocortex HTML5 Viewers worked after the upgrade to 2012, they did not work after the upgrade to 2016. I even submitted a case, thinking no one had ever come across this before.
I removed the Geocortex.Platform from the Modules list at the server level. Although the HTML5 Viewers work now, there are layers missing in the maps, though not missing from the legend/table of contents. When I go into a site's settings in the Rest Manager, I get errors about public services needing authentication details, which makes no sense. The Test Connection button fails.0 -
Latitude Geographics support got back to me and did a remote session to my computer, and I had a remote session to our web server. What Amanda did was reapply the TLS 1.2 changes I had made months ago when ESRI did away with TLS 1.1 support. The Windows OS upgrade, for whatever reason, overwrote those changes and went back to TLS 1.1 support. Hopefully this post helps others figure out the problem on their own, especially those doing upgrades after-hours and on weekends. 0
