Best practices for creating a map service for instant search

We have a map service which uses the same feature class for different layers, but there are different definition queries on each layer to allow for different symbologies.

The bottom layer is the feature class without any definition queries. How does the instant search index treat these different layers? Are there any best practices for setting up a map service for instant search?

 

I found a possible solution from this post (https://support.geocortex.com/essentialsGSCForum?id=9066000000007doAAA) , but since it’s a few years old I thought I’d see if anything has changed.

  Hi Emily,

   

  Instant Search will treat each layer as a unique dataset.  When querying the data, there's no way for us to know that the source data is the same.

   

  If you add just the Developments layer as a feature layer to the site, you should be able to generate an Instant Search index for just that layer.  However, we don't have a way to tell Essentials to use that index for any other layer.

   

  If the data is updated regularly then I would recommend staying with the normal Global Search rather than using Instant Search for this data.
