Is it possible to pass the selected item of the itemPicker in the change event to display the maptip for that item?

I tried Run Command - ShowMapTips (with an s) and the box popped up but no data in it. I'm assuming I would need to pass the feature to the ShowMapTip command, but not sure how to get the feature identifier to pass
