Change event not triggered by Set Current Form Element Item
Hi,
I have 3 connected drop-down menus:
Menu 1 on change set items list of Menu 2
Menu 2 on change set items list of Menu 3
When I add a Set Current Form Element Item (to Menu 1 change event) so that Menu 2 is set to the first item on the list, no change event is triggered for Menu 2 and Menu 3 is thus not set. The user then has to select again the same value in Menu 2 to trigger setting of Menu 3. Should a Set Current Form Element Item not trigger a change event? Is there a way to trigger a change event programmatically?
My use case is earliest year and latest year for Menus 2 and 3. I'm using change events instead of load events because I have a long chain of drop down menus and only one submit button at the end of the form. Depends on is not an option because some drop downs are skipped depending on user choices. When the user goes back to a previous menu, I use the change events to reset values.
Thank you.

Hi Helen,
There is an example workflow on how to use the Set Current Form Element Item activity that you might find useful here.
Automatically selecting values within cascading elements isn't currently supported. Please add this to the Ideas section.
Change events are currently only triggered when a user interacts with the element.
Thanks, Stefan

I'm caught in an endless loop trying to open the example workflow. It wants me to start a free trial when i already have a license. How do i open the workflow sample?

Hi Sean,
We'll take a look at your license to confirm its setup correctly. Are you able to the workflow in another browser or after clearing your cache?
Thanks, Stefan

My colleague showed me the Open by URL option in our instance of Designer and I’m able to open it that way. Thanks! 0 -
Your sample doesn’t include a drop down matching by “value”. I’m trying to match to my list of items by their value, but my label remains undefined. Why does 109 not match 109? [cid:image001.png@01D5E25D.02208820] 0 -
Hi Sean,
We checked your license status and you are currently enabled with on-prem instances, which would explain why you were seeing the trial message in SaaS.
In the Samples - Form - Drop Down List, the example displays in the Alert for both the label and value, as defined within the Options list.
Thanks, Stefan

I realized I had removed the element name from my activity while testing something else and forgot to replace it. I’m populating the form item from outside the element itself, so I needed to put the element name back in there. Thanks for the quick responses! 0
