Add scale to report map

I'm trying to create a report template that will produce a basic map print of the selected feature with the name of the specific feature selected. So far I have gotten it to produce the map image and feature name but cannot get it to produce the scale, projection or north arrow for the map created. Any advice for this? The reason I'm not just creating a basic map template and using that is the desre to have the feature name shown as the title on the report.
