Android Studio Go app external links force split view
We have some buttons on various locations in our Studio Go maps that are URLs that do a few things. One is a generated URL for Google Map directions using coordinates from a map feature. Others are simply URL buttons to open a webpage to a help document or a mailto URL to create an email.
These used to all work as expected, you click the button on the Studio Go map, then that app minimizes and the devices browser opens to the website or email template opens. But now on Android 12 devices when you use one of those buttons the phone tries to open split screen mode with Studio Go and the browser. Studio Go does not work in split screen so it just goes to a grey screen with infinite loading circle. The only way to fix it is to force close the app and reopen it.
We are on version 5.18.1.438 and using VertiGIS studio on SaaS version 5.18.1. I only notice this issue on Android 12 devices, Windows and iPhones seem to still work as expected. Was this a Studio Go change, Mobile designers change, or Android app change that may have started to cause this, any ideas on making it not try to use split screen mode?

Hi Max,
This is Phil from the Mobile team. Thank you for your question.
It's not something that we've intentionally changed, though while experimenting with the multi-screen mode we have periodically seen that grey hanging screen that you described. I think it's more likely that the Android OS upgrade has altered some of your device settings. You should be able to turn this mode off by looking for Multi-Window/Split screen mode in your OS settings, likely under the Advanced Features. This article here may be helpful.
Please give that a try and let us know if you have any further problems,
Phil MacIntyre

I've looked into disabling that on my Android 12 Pixel 6. After some Googling it seems like that is not an option, and if that option is there or not is dependent on the phone, Samsung's seem to have it most commonly.
I was hoping there was a setting VertiGIS could change in the next app update to not allow that somehow, as it's going to be very mixed bag of what users are affected by it and if they can change it on their side or not which also requires training. Right now if they use a devices that activates split screen mode when using a URL Command it essentially breaks their app, which means they will never want to use those url buttons and features.

Some of those settings require engaging Developer mode on your device so that might be something to try as well.
We've seen a couple of other apps which disable split screen mode, simply blocking the user from invoking it. Let me chat with our team and we'll get back to you.

I'm not seeing any options about multi window or split screen in developer mode either.
Thanks for looking into Phil! Just trying to fix the many little things that keep our users from wanting to use the app in day to day tasks. It's slowly getting more popular though.

That's great to hear, Max!
I've reproduced the issue on my Pixel 6, so I can see what you're talking about. I tried using the various screen related developer settings to no avail. We'll see what we can do.
On a more positive note, testing with some of our Samsung tablets, Go seems to handle split screen just fine on those, so this may be a fairly device-specific issue.
We'll be in touch.

Hi Max,
I'm happy to inform you that we have fixed this issue and this will be included in our 5.21 release scheduled for December. Using an Open Url command will simply navigate you over to your browser, and when you return to Go it should continue working as expected.
Please let us know if you encounter any other issues,
Phil
