Get Layer Activity in Experience Builder

We are running Vertigis Studio Workflow 5.41.0 in ArcGIS Enterprise Portal 11.3.  I have tried many different types of Layer Id inputs, but cannot get the console in an experience builder application to return anything for the get layer activity.  It always returns undefined when trying to pull info related to the map object.  Does this activity work in Exb, if so how?  Thanks.

  I have referenced this article, and believe that I have configured the workflow according to the instructions.  Could it be something else causing a problem?
