Better user feedback on SHP file upload
PlanifiéeVertiGIS Studio Web supports uploading and displaying shapefiles. However, we frequently receive user inquiries about this.
User inquiries could be reduced if VertiGIS provided better feedback regarding the required structure of a shapefile.
The rules that come to mind are:
- It must not contain subfolders.
- The ZIP file must have the same name as all the files inside it.
- It must not contain unexpected files, such as PDFs.
- Anything else?
Many shapefiles submitted by users do not meet these requirements. WebOffice is better than VSW at informing users about errors in the shapefile structure:
If a file is not parsable, the user should at least be able to see where the error lies. A better error message would be helpful: not "Error during upload," but rather: "Error in SHP structure: remove the file 'Notes.pdf'."

I completely agree. We often face the same issue: unclear feedback about what is wrong with a shapefile. I contacted VertiGIS regarding a specific shapefile that I couldn’t upload. They registered it as a bug (VertiGIS BUG 353636) but were unable to explain why the shapefile could not be uploaded. In ArcgisPro and in free online tools I could open the same file succesfully.
