Map.add-layers configure layer list placement
Hi there, my idea would be a have an (additional) argument available for the map.add-layers command where it is possible to define that the layers should be added at the top/bottom of the layer list. Now it is only possible to have layers to be added to the top of the list. However, since we can now configure more with the portal.choose-layers command, we can create specific buttons to add specific tools.
In my use case, I would have a button that allows users to only add aerial photographs. As these photos cover the whole area, it is a bit annoying that users then manually have to drag them all the way to the bottom of the layer list.
I think a simple optional argument with this command could be a great addition. The default can then still be ‘top’ of the layer list, so nothing changes for already existing uses of the command.

This could be configured in GVH.
Place user-added layers here: Select this checkbox to show user-added layers in this folder when layers are added in the viewer. You can only configure this setting for one folder at a time.
We recommend that you only configure a visible, top-level folder to be where user-added layers are placed. This ensures that end users can find the list of user-added layers easily.1 -
We encountered some similar use-cases where a possible solution in the VSW apps for our customer, by adding a layer from an orthophoto imagery service, was called back because of this limitation. As Guido Mosch pointed out, it is a pity that the layer is added on top of the Layer List by default. For imagery layers that doesn't make sense. And it's not a user-friendly solution if the users need to re-order the Layer List themself: they would need instructions, while the power of a Web application is to be able to provide a streamlined user experience.
Having the option to insert the added layer at a specific location in the Layer List would mean such an improvement! For customers coming from Geocortex Essentials it's indeed hard to believe that this functionality is missing in the newer VertiGIS Studio…

We are also finding this issue with ordering imagery layers that are added via a workflow. Can this be considered in a future update?

I am also interested.

For anyone interested, you can use this custom workflow activity (https://vs-wf-activity-layerreordering.pages.dev/activitypack.json) to reorder layers by their index (0 = bottom). You must specify both the layer ID and the index as inputs.
