Configuring Layer Comparison Tool for Imagery

Hello

I am attempting to setup the Layer Comparison Tool in my map application to compare Imagery from different years/times. I want to configure the comparison tool to be fully customisable (ie. be able to select any Imagery from any year) so that the user can compare any Imagery available in the map. 

The only way I have been able to get this to work is not user friendly. The user has to select the imagery within the comparison tool configuration, and then turn the same layer on from the layer list.

Is there a more user-friendly way to use the Layer Comparison Tool for Imagery?
