Layer Initialization failed for a WMS / Pop up error

Hi,

Short question: 

We currently are using some WMS services in our web application. But as expected if one of these services are not available it would result in a pop-up at startup. 

"Layer initialization Failed"

We currently have this layers set on ‘silent failure’ so our users don't get a pop up at startup. 

 - But is there a way to get the pop up only when they put that specific layer on in the layer list? Even if the silent failure is set on that layer?
