Dynamically change an image in the viewer

I'd like to have the ability to change an Image component in a viewer from a workflow. An example would be an external service that creates images: This could be charts, AI generated content, or really anything that's created dynamically.
A workaround would be to use a workflow with an Image element on a Display Form, and a hidden footer bar, but I don't think this will work if I have more than one image that I want to change. I've tried running the same workflow more than once with different values for instanceId and target, but it seems that other all running instances of the same workflow are killed nonetheless

Berend Veldkamp When you say you might want to change more than one image - would they all be located together or potentially be spread out throughout the viewer?
I was thinking you might be able to use custom events to send the image data from one workflow to another.
If the locations are all known in advance, you could potentially configure a separate instance of the same workflow to run in different places. Maybe that's what you meant by different values for instanceId and target. That might be a question for the VSW team if you're finding it doesn't allow separate instances of the same workflow.
