ASP.NET Required for Essentials or Studio?
We have an end of life ASP.NET version (6.0.36) on our development & production essentials server.
I can't find anything that states that ASP.NET is required for Essentials or Server.
If it is, I'm assuming it's ok to update this to version 8?
Any clarification would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Eric

Hey Eric Creighton
You're right—our documentation on this is outdated. I’m not entirely sure about Essentials, but for Studio in this context, the only product relying on .NET is Workflow, which was upgraded to .NET 8 several releases ago.
I recall seeing an article about this but haven’t been able to locate it. However, I did find this comment from Ken Lyon, the product owner for Workflow, confirming:
“Workflow Server itself is currently targeting .NET 8.0.”
Additionally, I found internal notes stating:
“Workflow Server requires .NET 8, with a minimum version of 8.0.4.”
Let me know if this helps or if there’s anything else I can dig up!

Ah, I just found in an update to the documentation that will soon be live here (but is not yet) on the Workflow Server requirements, it will soon say:
VertiGIS Studio Workflow requires .NET 8 that is included in the Workflow installer.
Note that installing .NET 9 or later will not affect Workflow. It will still use .NET 8.
So that is definitive.
In terms of Essentials, I did not find further and noted that the docs say only 4.5 and newer which is ambiguous. I have started an internal user story 310572: “DOCS: Clarify Geocortex Essentials Compatibility with .NET 8” to address this as I am sure others will have the same concern.0 -
Thanks Gareth, I appreciate the information and your help on the matter!
