Custom layer visualizations: Is it possible to return to the layers original state/symbology without refreshing the browser?
TerminéeMy users are very pleased with your symbolization feature, which is available in layer actions for each layer with us. Here’s an example where all the lines in a service have been changed to green:

However, we have a need for users to be able to reset the symbology so that it returns to its default symbology—without having to update the application. In the example above, the default symboology would look like this:
Our users use the Shared Storage Service (S3) solution to save their projects with various services enabled and sometimes want, for example, a parcel to be transparent in a given case. But afterwards they would like to have the service return to the original state / the default symbology .
I haven't been able to find a solution for this right away. Is there a command or similar that can perform this task, allowing the service to return to its original state/symbology without updating the application?

Implemented with the 5.36 release.
Added two new commands that allow users to restore original layer filters and symbols: layers.reset-definition-expression and layers.reset-symbols. These commands allow resetting the definitionExpression and symbology (renderer) of one or more layers to their original values. Using these two new commands, four new tools were created:
1) Reset All Filters,
2) Reset All Symbols,
3) Reset Filter, and
4) Reset Symbol. -
Agree, that this functionality would be very useful.
An additional use case is in regards to preset layers. We have some specific themes set up in the preset layers where the layer needs to mirror the symbology of the service. Thus, a button to reset the symbology would be great.

This would be a great idea. I debated making a layer preset for it, but it would be nice if it was a dynamic option in case I +/- layers to the map. It would always go back to the default for the current webmap.

I agree, it's a much needed feature.

I agree too. The symbolisation feature is very popular but a quick user-friendly way to restore the original symbology would be great.

Yes, reset to default or original is definitely needed.

We also need this functionality, are there any news?

You would expect this would be low-hanging fruit.

Yes, this would be a much welcomed improvement for our users too.
